Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that next year’s cruises will include a concept that will be based on the renowned Grammy Awards. Famous for its freestyle cruising, the Florida-based company is planning the Grammy concept on the Norwegian Gateway, the latest addition to its fleet. The ship will be housing some pieces from the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles for the full musical accolade experience.  In addition, the cruise ship will be inviting live performances from Grammy winners and nominees. This will surely entice travellers, as fans would love to be on the same ship as their idols and watch them perform at close range.

The Norwegian Gateway is still under construction by shipbuilder Meyer Werft in Germany and will start cruising in February, 2014. It is said to be the sister vessel of the Norwegian Breakaway, and it will be followed by another cruise ship called Breakway Plus. The ship’s frontage is highlighted by a mural designed by Cuba- American graphic and fine artist David Le Batard. The 324-meter long cruise ship is expected to be based out of Miami all year-round to carry 4,000 passengers for each trip. The ship’s entertainment includes a water park that will have five slides. There’s also a rumoured freefall drop and two twister sides on board, which will surely be a cruise highlight for young passengers.

The Grammy Award-winning performers will be watched on stage surrounded by a 30-foot high video dome. Aside from the Grammy Awards them, the Gateway will also feature a room called “Illusionarium” to pay homage to magic.  As for dining, cruisers will have a taste of Chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s creations in Ocean Blue Restaurant.  Chef’s Zakarian’s venue will be located on the ship’s “The Waterfront” where people could experience dining while frolicking under the sun. A fireworks display at sea will be celebrating each cruise.

Norwegian Cruise’s Grammy-themed ocean vacation is expected to draw passengers. The cruise industry’s popularity experienced a significant decline after the capsizing accident of the Costa Concordia cruise ship that killed 32 people in January 2012. The ship hit rocks near the Italian island of Giglio which sent the whole ship submerged and sending 4,000 unsuspecting holiday makers on a panic. The ship’s Italian captain, Francesco Schedtiino, is now on trial for multiple criminal charges.  Meanwhile, the once floating pristine of Costa Concordia had just been pulled upright and still waits to be pulled out of the Italian waters.
